One of the things I’ve always liked about pre-2006 Ubuntu releases is the ability to pull the live image on USB key, create a bootable live media, and run Ubuntu in-boot without a full PC install. From a security perspective, this makes for a convenient forensic tool, but it’s a royal pain to get the latest ‘live’ image on USB key for any kind of PC with a USB boot port. I’ve found one way to do it on a USB key but I want a bootable CD. There must be a way to generate the ISO for a computing device, directly from the image on an optical drive.
Use the Intel Hardware Configuration Guide if you plans to use the Intel NICs. You can also get the Intel NIC Dropsys for Win2k ( http://archive.intel.com/network/network/downloads/public/static/hw/w15x/win2k/wlpspsp2_to_wlpspsp2b_cpelli02.pdf ), and related NIC drivers on that page.
Intel chipsets and NIC ASICs are designed to interface with a specific CPU, however their software is compatible with a number of CPUs. Blacklisting these ports on OEM computers may have no effect, as the ports may be unavailable due to the blacklisting of the CPU. 7211a4ac4a
